　　　　弗兰刚刚辞去在她男朋友店里作为新娘顾问的工作，每一次出现在百老汇制片人麦克斯威尔-谢菲尔德家门口的台阶上叫卖化妆品。麦克斯威尔家里的保姆在他的小儿子上演了一出"自杀"的闹剧后提出辞职，弗兰不失时机成为他家三个孩子的保姆。不久，弗兰以其不落俗套的教育方式和求实正直的态度感动了麦克斯威尔和孩子们。于是出现了蓝领遇贵族的情境。弗兰通过向古板正经的麦克斯威尔及其问题多端的孩子略施一计"奎恩逻辑"，赢得了麦克斯威尔和孩子们的心，帮助他们建立起了一个身心健康、美满、幸福的家。 　　弗兰对麦克斯威尔的三个孩子的影响，尽管有时并不是他们的父亲所期望的，但确是孩子们所需要的。在弗兰的照料下，麦琪从一个胆小害羞的女孩成长为充满自信的年轻女子；布莱顿是位恶作剧大师，他刚刚发现追逐女孩的乐趣，并沉缅于他个人建立的信托基金中。格蕾丝曾是多愁多病身，而因为有了弗兰，她再也不用每天去看临床医生了。奈尔斯是这个家庭的男管家，他以犀利的目光注视着眼前发生的一切。他发现弗兰有将温情带入这个家庭的天赋，认定弗兰是这个家庭将来的女主人，并表现得比新郎更加殷切地希望弗兰入主。 　　茜茜是麦克斯威尔的商业伙伴，她总以一种猜忌的眼光看待弗兰，把麦克斯威尔视为囊中之物。在幻想遭到挫败之后，茜茜转向奈尔斯示爱，但是，她又遭到了拒绝。 娶了弗兰之后，麦克斯威尔还需同弗兰的老妈塞尔维亚夫人竞争。塞尔维亚夫人每天在麦克斯威尔家进出自如，并试图以她自己的方式来影响女儿和这个家庭。 弗兰最好的朋友瓦尔总是给弗兰提建议，搞得弗兰的逻辑与相对论相差无几。
