　　第二季故事起始于1977年，也就是第一季故事结束五年后，纽约市中心的时代广场地区正处在历史上最绚烂、最花哨也最不稳定的时期。主人公们面临色情产业的黄金时代，制作主流的X级电影在一夜之间成为现实（以《深喉》的上映为代表），不再像过去那样遥不可及，色情文化和公开的性商品对越来越多的美国人产生强烈吸引力。迪斯科和朋克文化变得日益狂热，警察腐败变得肆无忌惮，就连政府对纽约风月场所的政治宽容度也达到前所未有的高度。与此同时，在早期给予色情产业极大支持的黑手党打算乘机大捞一把。在法庭宣布色情产业合法化的那一刻开始，黑手党就已经打开袋子准备装钱了。另一方面，美国的西海岸崛起了更加有竞争力的、更专业的色情产业，但纽约色情产业的人并不感到害怕。至少眼下纽约还能把持住自己，还是一座盛产电影、音乐、艺术和吸毒聚会的超级不夜城。
