　　温蒂（派翠西娅·克拉克森 Patricia Clarkson 饰）做了二十一年的书评家，一直生活在象牙塔和自己的世界之中，连最基本的开车都不会，进出均由丈夫接送，便也没有觉得有什么不方便。然而，让温蒂做梦也没有想到的是，丈夫居然提出了离婚，并且果断的离开了自己。
一时间，温蒂的世界崩塌了，她开始怀疑和怨恨身边的每一个男人。然而，最大的问题还是她失去了唯一的“司机”，无奈之下，温蒂决定开始尝试学习开车。达文（本·金斯利 Ben Kingsley 饰）是温蒂的教练，这位来自印度的政治难民，因为他的身份和装扮屡屡遭到周围人的误会和排挤。就这样，温蒂和达文开始了他们的课程，两颗伤痕累累的心挤在小小的驾驶室中，不可避免的碰撞出了爱情的火花。
